Grinch Bath Bomb Tutorial

The Grinch Who Stole Christmas was always one of my favorite holiday shows when I was a kid. Ok, it still kind of is. 😉 Just call me Cindy Lou Who… I love Christmas and I absolutely love making handmade gifts for people on my gift list. DIY bath products like my peppermint sugar scrub cubes, unicorn fizzy bath salts and lip sugar scrubs have been winners in years past, but I’m extra excited about a DIY Christmas gift idea that’s based around one of my favorite Christmas traditions… the Grinch!

Fizzy bath salts

Trust me, you will want to add another batch to your ingredient list because you deserve some for yourself! It’s so satisfying dropping a bath bomb into the bath and watching the fizz come to life. And once you’re actually in the bath, you’ll get a multi-sensory experience with the cozy fragrance and the silky bath water infused with skin-loving ingredients.

How To Make Bath Bombs

Making Grinch holiday bath bombs is a similar process to making any handmade bath bombs. The most important tip is to get the right texture of the bath bomb mixture so that it sets properly (this is especially important when using a traditional bath bomb mold).

You can scent DIY bath bombs with any single or combination of essential oils. Some of my favorite bath bomb scents are lavender, rosemary, lemon and eucalyptus (great for clearing the sinuses, along with these shower soothers and shower soothers!) peppermint and marshmallow are fun holiday bath bomb scents!

How to use DIY Bath Bombs

Place a Grinch bath bomb into your warm bath water and they will gradually fizz. The baking soda and epsom salts will relax and soothe your muscles and the the cozy, sweet aroma of marshmallow will relax and soothe your mind! The coconut oil will moisturize your skin. Enjoy!

Yields: 1 dozen

Supplies needed for Grinch Christmas Bath Bombs

  • Silicone muffin mold
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • ½ cup epsom salt
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • ½ cup citric acid
  • 2 tablespoons fractionated coconut oil
  • Marshmallow oil or essential oil scent of your choice
  • Green soap colorant
  • Jumbo heart sprinkles
  • Water in spray bottle

Directions

1.   Add baking soda, epsom salt, cornstarch and citric acid to a mixing bowl; whisk to combine.
2.   In a small bowl, combine coconut oil, water, marshmallow oil and green soap colorant.
3.   Add the oil mixture to the dry ingredients, one tablespoon at a time.  It’s important to add the oils slowly to avoid activating the bath bombs. Whisk the entire bath bomb mixture for about 3 minutes or until you have achieved your desired shade of green. The mixture is ready to mold if it clumps like damp sand (not wet) when you squeeze it in your hand. If it doesn’t clump to the desired texture, add an additional 1 teaspoon of water and whisk again.

4.   Add a jumbo heart sprinkle to each mini muffin cup. Cover each heart with the bath bomb mixture and press down firmly with your fingers.  Allow to dry overnight.

5.   Carefully press the bottom of the mold to release each Grinch bath bomb from the mold.

Store the bath bombs in a sealed, airtight container. If you’re giving these homemade bath bombs as holiday gifts, tie a festive ribbon around them and call it a day. No gift wrapping needed… the bright colors in a clear jar are too pretty to cover up!
