Hi friends! Do you get as excited about Awards season as I do? I’m currently doing what I do every year, trying to cram/binge watch as many nominated shows and movies as I can before the season is over… it’s not as much fun if you don’t have a favorite to cheer on, right?! With all of the watching parties happening, I wanted to think of a fun hostess gift to accompany my standard bottle of Santa Margherita Wines Pinot Grigio; this Air Plant DIY Wine Stopper is the perfect accessory! And of course like all of my DIYs, it’s easy breezy to make!
Air Plant DIY Wine Stopper Gift
Supplies
- Santa Margherita wine cork
- Painters tape
- Craft paint (the colors I used are Americana Coral and Laguna acrylic paints)
- Foam paint brush
- Drill or sharp object for cork
- Faux air plant
- Magnets and washi tape (optional)
Instructions
At some point prior to starting the project, enjoy a bottle of Santa Margherita Wines Pinot Grigio and save the cork. (Best part of the project). 😉
Tape off the bottom of the wine cork (the end that is more narrow) with painter’s tape and apply 3 coats of the lighter shade of craft paint on the top portion of the cork. Allow to dry.
Apply another piece of tape about ¾” down from the top of the cork. Apply 3 coats of darker shade of paint in between the tape. Allow to dry. Remove all tape.
Drill a small hole in the top of the cork. Insert air plant into the top of the wine cork.
Tie the wine stopper around a bottle of Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio. Hit the party armed with the best hostess gift in the place, it’s sure to get the attention of the paparazzi on the red carpet. 😉
When you hand over this gift, you can mention this fun factoid: Santa Margherita was the first wine brand to introduce Pinot Grigio to the United States in 1979. The gift recipient likely already knows the approachable elegance of this Italian wine brand, so why not give them a little trivia to keep in their pocket; it’s always fun to know a little bit of history about a gift you receive, right?
Another idea! Wrap a little washi tape around the bottom of the cork and attach a magnet to the back with hot glue and use as a refrigerator magnet.
