God bless you! By my predictions, chances are 1 in 3 of you have sneezed in the last 15 minutes. Why? ‘Tis the season for spring allergies and colds! I was in the store last week and the check out line was like a symphony of well harmonized sneezes, coughs and sniffles.
Are colds not the worst?!
Well no one said we have to just suffer through them… today I’m rounding up some great home remedies and comforts for your spring cold survival.
Mom’s Healing Chicken Soup
Doesn’t this look like straight comfort in a bowl?! I can almost feel this warming my achy bones just looking at it! I love the Lebanese spin that Elaine (and her mom) put on this cold survival staple.
Cold Remedy Hot Toddy
Is it bad that I don’t want to wait to get a cold to drink this? 😉 Becky from The Cookie Rookie does it again with this updated (and much more tasty!) take on Grandma’s remedy.
Homemade Herbal Cough Drops
If you’re going to be sucking something until it dissolves, I would say it shouldn’t be full of chemicals, don’t you think? These drops have ginger, cinnamon, chamomile and all kinds of healing goodies to help soothe your scratchy or raw throat.
Soft and Soothing Tissues
I just love how the Rudolph nose lingers on for weeks after having a cold, said no one ever. When your nose won’t stop running and you’ve gone through a box of tissues, most of them start to feel like sand paper and your dry, red, flaky nose tells the sad story. I absolutely love these Vick’s tissues for several reasons. One, they are so soft and infused with lotion so they do not make your nose dry, red, flaky, Rudolphy, etc. Two, they are also infused with soothing Vick’s so each time you have to wipe your already sensitive nose, they provide a cooling sensation that is the ultimate comfort.
Essential Oil Diffuser with Soothing Essential Oils
This diffuser with Eucalyptus and/or Peppermint Essential oils not only provides lovely aromatherapy, but these particular essential oils really help to soothe and clear inflammation in the nasal and sinus areas that to me, is the absolute worst part of the cold and flu.
DIY Congestion Relief Linen Spray
We go through this stuff like water in our house. Ok technically it is water, but it’s water with magic! Like the diffuser above, the eucalyptus essential oil provides instant aromatherapy and when spritzed on the pillow cases and blanket, help to provide relief throughout the night.
Herbal Eye Pillow and NeckWrap
This duo from Amazon will help soothe the aches and pains that come along with spring colds and flu. The smell of both is divine and the buckwheat inside provides a massage-like experience for your neck shoulders. The eye pillow offers relief from sinus pressure from behind the eyes.
DIY Soothing Vapor Shower Tabs
These are my shower counterpart to my congestion relief linen spray. I’d used a store-bought version of these before and while they did give me some relief, all of the chemicals listed in the ingredients prompted me to come up with a natural alternative. These do the job just splendidly!
I certainly hope that the spring cold and flu bug has not gotten to you, but if it has I hope that these cold survival nuggets will help you through!
Happy hump day and thanks for stopping by!
