There usually isn’t a month that goes by that I don’t try at least a couple new beauty items, partly due to my subscription box situation, and partly due to the fact that I find it physically impossible to walk out of Target, CVS or the like without a little something pretty. There aren’t, however, usually months like this that I fare so well! In the past month I have come across multiple products that I’m soo excited about that I can’t wait to shout about them from the mountain tops! Consider yourself warned. 😉
M·A·C Eye Shadow x 15 Cool Neutral palette
When I popped open this palette I felt like a little girl who just got her first box of the good crayons. You know what I mean, right? The ones with the whole rainbow, sharpener, tricked out box… Yeah those crayons. These are that good. Besides the sheer amount of colors (15, as the name would suggest), the colors themselves are phenomenal! If you’re a M·A·C collector like me, it’s also a bonus that only 4 of the colors are ones that can be found in their regular lineup, the rest are all brand new and exclusive to the palette. As usual, I found the pigment payoff for M·A·C’s shadows to be on point; very true to color and a little goes a long way. They blend like a dream and have a good variety of textures. And now, brace… 15 full size shadows are only 85 bucks!
Juice Beauty Green Apple Age Defy Moisturizer
My skin is in that mid-season funk right now and my Winter moisturizer has just been feeling a little too heavy. I’ve been hearing a lot about this brand for it’s potent, yet natural ingredients so when it came in my Allure Beauty Bar Sample Society box I was eager to try it. It is absolutely lovely. It’s the perfect amount of hydration, it has a slight tingle (in a good way, it makes me feel like it’s doing it’s anti-aging thing), and absorbs quickly. I don’t love the scent (I don’t hate it either) but that’s part of the territory when working with Organic skincare products (no artificial fragrances). I would definitely buy this again.
ModelCo More Brows
My over tweezed brows aren’t a fan of the fuller brow moment that’s happening in trend right now (although I myself, am! Sigh!) As I encourage the little underdogs to grow, I’ve been struggling with what to use in them to hide the telltale signs of their previous more structured brow alter-ego. Enter this little gem right on cue in my Glossybox! This highly pigmented gel comes out on a perfectly sized wand that enables me to precisely fill in where needed and doesn’t tattoo little wand polka dots around my actual eye brow area. It has little fibers that adhere along with the color, giving me a perfect fake out that is going nowhere until I remove it.
NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss in Nude Peach
I was not in the market, or in need of another lip gloss when I met this NYX variety. We were in New Orleans and I had forgotten to pack a lip balm, gloss or stick in my wristlet which was not going to work for an entire evening out in cold weather. I slipped in to CVS and picked up this NYX gloss because I liked the color and hadn’t ever used their glosses before. I am tickled that I did! This peachy-nude color is very neutral, has a medium shine level (I wouldn’t categorize it as mega, but for me that’s a good thing), smells and tastes delightful and I like how big the doe foot applicator is (it covers the lip in one swoop).
Enregin Brush on Cuticle Oil
I have a bad habit of picking my cuticles (graduated from picking my nails as a kid). I have yet to graduate from the cuticles (any other similar vices you recommend? 😉 ). I like to keep a portable cuticle oil pen and hand cream in my handbag at all times to help avert the damage caused by my habit. I found this hidden treasure at a random jaunt through Dollar Tree; it sells on Amazon for $6.48! It’s a rare day that I find anything less than Amazon. (Even on eBay it was $1.99!) This is a cuticle oil similar to any other, smells great, has a wonderful brush-on delivery system, and it’s a BUCK!
Beauty Disappointments
Since I do try my share of new beauty loot, I deem it only fair to share a couple of of my recent product disappointments; not in the spirit of being a Debbie Downer, but in case you haven’t had a chance to try them yourself and you’re on the fence!
Benefit Rollerlash Mascara
I’m a fan of Benefit’s kitchy packaging, playful names, and often their products. After my obsession with their last mascara launch (which is ongoing by the way), They’re Real, I was excited to try their newest buzzed about product when it arrived in my Birchbox (ironically I got another sample a week later in my PopSugar subscription box!) Let’s just say that it didn’t blow my mind the way They’re Real did. To be fair, this mascara’s claim is curl and lift. I’m more of a volume and length girl, so this just very well may be a case of incompabaility, with no side to blame.
Nude Pro-Genius Omega Treatment Oil
It seems that I can’t open up a skincare post or article anymore without reading about moisturizing oils. One of my dear friends Heather, sends me samples that she gets from her online purchases so that I can review them (thanks Heather!). Although I know the difference between good for skin oils and bad, the thought of sliding oil directly on to my skin without it involving rinsing has kind of creeped me out. Can’t disappoint Heather or all the tens of thousands of you that have been dying to hear about skin oil hehe! My hesitations and deepest fears about this product came to fruition. My pores were clogged for a week and a half and the surface of my skin still suffered from dehydration. Skin oil, you might just not be for me, I’m afraid.
Have you had any recent discoveries that you’re dying to share (or to steer me away from)? I’d love to hear about new things to try that I have absolutely no need for whatsoever. 😉
Thanks for reading and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
