Handmade bath bombs always make for a fun gift, but turning them into Bath Bomb Ornaments make them the perfect holiday gift. Scented with the smells of the season and made festive with red and green sprinkles, they not only make a perfect holiday gift, but a full sensory experience.
Hello, friends! Can you tell I’m on a holiday crafting spree? Irene and Cyna from Country Hill Cottage invited me to join them and some other amazing creators to share DIY Beauty and Aromatherapy holiday gift ideas and I happily jumped on board. (Do you remember the stunning rose bath truffles they shared on the blog a couple months ago? They make the most lovely things!)
I love the idea of DIY beauty and aromatherapy gifts because they’re something that most of us don’t take the time to treat ourselves to, so with these ideas you’re giving the gift of self-care, something we could all could use more of! And guys, there are so many amazing gift ideas from these talented ladies! You can find them all below.
Today I’m sharing these festive DIY ornament bath bombs. I shared Grinch bath bombs a few weeks ago which are cute and festive, but I wanted to share some that are elegant and sparky … what more do you need than that for the holidays, right?
And let’s talk about the aromatherapy element! Of course you can use any variety of essential oils that you’d like (I’ve made many with Lavender for it’s relaxing properties), these Christmas bath bombs contain some of the quintessential smells of the season… peppermint, eucalyptus and rosemary mint.
Of course they smell amazing, but ornament bath bombs are a delightful experience for all of the senses. They soothe achy muscles, hydrate the skin and promote relaxation… just what we all need at holiday time, right?
Grab your supplies and let’s do this!
DIY Bath Bomb Supplies
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1 cup epsom salt
- ½ cup citric acid
- ½ cup corn starch
- 3 tablespoons fractionated coconut oil
- Peppermint, Eucalyptus and Rosemary essential oils (see step #2 for quantity)
- Spray bottle with water
- Red and green sugar sprinkles
- 6 clear plastic fillable ornaments
How to Make Christmas Bath Bomb Ornaments
- Add all dry ingredients to a large bowl and combine with a whisk or fork. Divide the mixture evenly between 3 bowls.
- In 3 small cups or ramekins, add to each cup 1 tablespoon fractionated coconut oil and 2 drops of essential oil. For my Christmas bath bombs I used Eucalyptus in one, peppermint in one and a combo of peppermint/rosemary in the other.
- Slowly add coconut oil and essential oil to the 1st bowl dry mixture, whisking immediately and constantly. Be sure not to add in wet ingredients all at once or it will activate the fizz prematurely.
- Spray mixture with 1 spritz of water at a time in order to mix in very quickly. Continue to spray until the mixture is the consistency damp, not quite wet, sand.
- Once the consistency is correct, fold in about 1 tablespoon of red or green sprinkles, or a combo of the 2. Be careful not to stir the sprinkles in, but fold them in so that they don’t dissolve in the bath bomb mixture.
- Separate the plastic ornaments and use the halves as scoops, overfilling each half. It’s important to overfill the halves so that the bomb bomb ornament mixture gets solidly compacted and stays together.
- Smush the 2 sides together to form the bath bomb.
- Repeat (each bowl will make 2 bath bomb ornaments). Hold the ornament bath bombs from the bottom and slowly remove the top. Sit the ornament on its bottom half upright in a ramekin to allow it to dry. If you leave it to dry in the ornament the plastic may crack. Allow it to dry overnight and then put the top back on the ornament. Repeat with the other bowls.
