I’m ready… fall decorating is underway at our house! Fall is one of my favorite seasons for home decor; it feels so cozy and warm, don’t you think? My all seasons wreath had a good run through the last year, transforming from fall, to Christmas, to Valentine’s Day to Easter. I still love it, but I was inspired to mix it up a little this season when I saw this fun little number at Joann last week. Acorns speak fall to me! The way it was in the store had a little more embellishment on it than I wanted; it hides too much of the rustic grapevine feel that I love so much about it. Soooo….
I decided to strip it down and start from scratch!
I found these lovely silk flowers with a burlap detail at Dollar Tree, believe it or not! The texture and colors felt really fall-like to me. I snipped the heads of the flowers off just below the base so I could arrange them on the wreath.
You may have noticed before that I like a letter on my wreaths. 😉 I found this little wood N at Michael’s for just 99 cents and gave it a few coats of gold metallic paint to fall-ify it.
I tied a long loop bow with some raffia and glued it to the back of the N to “hang” it on the acorn.
I had several assorted branches and fall floral that I’ve accumulated over the years, so I clipped some pieces from them and just started to experiment with placing them on the acorn until I found a layout I liked.
Once I had everything arranged where I wanted it, I secured the loose pieces to the acorn with a glue gun, and for further security used twist-ties to secure the flowers to the back by weaving the ties through the vine.
Here’s the final makeover…
I found some beautiful gold metallic wired ribbon at Old Time Pottery to make my wreath hanger (see tutorial here).
I underestimated the amount of ribbon I needed to be able to have excess ribbon to cascade down the door. This mistake inspired me to decorate the whole back of the door! I spent all of this time decorating the wreath for the front door, which I never even see, so I figured I should decorate the back of the door too so that I can enjoy it! I added 2 more pieces of ribbon to create staggered length ribbon to decorate the back of the door.
I’m happy with my understated fall door decor for this year, and really love the metallic ribbon hanger!
Hmmm, now what to do for the porch?! Any fun ideas for me? 🙂
Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!
