Drop one of these DIY Shower Steamers into your shower for an energizing start to your day!
Why is the end of daylight savings time so painful?! Almost 2 weeks later I’m still struggling to get up in the morning. If I can drag myself into the shower before Brighton wakes up that makes a big difference.
Aromatherapy has always been a favorite way of mine to relax or energize. I love my soothing vapor shower bombs when I’m congested, so I decided to try to formulate an energizing shower steamer recipe and it did not disappoint!
Starting the day with an aromatherapy shower steamer is a great way to combat that early morning lag. I’ve you’ve been here before you know my love of rainbows, so instead of leaving these shower tabs white, I decided to make them rainbow with natural mica powders… now they give me not only an instant mood lift, but a multi-sensory experience!
If you’re more of a bath person, you can easily transform these shower bombs into bath bombs by using just 1/3 of the quantity of essential oils. You would also want to use a bath bomb mold so that you get plenty of fizz for the tub. I mean, who’s going to say no to a rainbow bath?!
Energizing DIY Shower Steamers
Makes 12 steamers
Ingredients/Supplies to Make Shower Steamers
Printable instruction card below.
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1/2 cup citric acid
- 1/4 cup corn starch (or you can also use arrowroot powder)
- 35 drops Orange Essential Oil
- 35 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
- 35 drops Rosemary Essential Oil
- Mica powders in Raspberry, Tangerine, Daffodil, Seafoam and Sugar Plum
- Spray bottle with witch hazel or water
- Shower Steamer Mold (or any thin, silicone mold)
How to Make Shower Bombs
- Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl.
- Incorporate oils slowly into dry mixture. Introducing too much moisture at once can cause the shower fizzier to react prematurely.
- Separate equally (approximately) into 5 small bowls.
- Spritz the mixture with water gradually and combine quickly after each spray. Continue to spritz until the mixture feels like damp sand (not wet!). It will very much like the texture of a bath bomb mixture. Sprinkle each color mica into the small bowls and add more as you incorporate it into the mixture until it turns into the color shade you want.
- Add all of the different colors into the shower bomb molds. Pack and press mixture firmly into molds. Layer the colors however you’d like… get creative with it!
- Allow to dry for 24 hours. Gently press shower tabs out of molds once dry.
When you’re ready for your morning jump start, place a tablet onto your shower floor or shelf. You want it in an area that will get wet, but is not in the main water stream.
Store your shower steamers in an airtight container to avoid moisture getting into them. You don’t want them to have the fizz party without you!
Put them in a pretty jar for a great gift idea (just make sure to save some for yourself!)

Love these and the fact that I have most of these ingredients at home already! I am neither a morning person nor a bath person so these are actually quite perfect for me. Thank you for sharing!
