The holiday party circuit is underway! That usually means the eating and imbibing is underway as well. I read a scary stat the other day… “The average person gains 1 to 2 pounds during the holiday season”. Eeeeek. Enjoying food and drink around the holidays is an intimate and bonding tradition, I certainly get it and like to partake as well; but it got me thinking, what changes can I make to cut down on some calories during the season whilst still enjoying my food and drink. Hmmm…
Well, here’s a great one. I recently got a SodaStream Power (an automatic sparkling water maker) and it is so fun! It let reminds me of one of those big machines in some restaurants where you can mix your own sodas creating unique flavors, except this is mix your own waters! I’m a firm believer in getting 8 waters in a day, but it can get soooo boring, right? It quenches thirst like nothing else but some flavor would be nice people! The SodaStream sparkling drink mixes are a great low cal, lower sugar option to liven up your water, and with a fantastic fizz. I love making new concoctions with my SodaStream Power, and decided to use it to lighten up one of my favorite drinks (as well as give to it a new twist), Sangria.

Printable recipe card below.
Ingredients
- 3 ½ cups Black Currant Lime Sparkling Gourmet Drink Mix
- SodaStream machine
- 2 bottles red wine (I use Pinot Noir, but you can use whatever kind you like)
- ½ cup cinnamon whiskey
- ¼ cup orange liqueur
- 2 limes, thinly sliced
- 1 cup cranberries
- 1 orange, thinly sliced
- 1 green apple, sliced
- 1 red apple, sliced
For rim:
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons stevia
Directions
Pour wine and orange liqueur into a large pitcher. Add fruit and refrigerate for 12 – 24 hours. The longer is sits the more the fruits will flavor the sangria. Don’t worry if you can’t make it ahead though, it will still be delicious!
Make the Black Currant sparkling water. I always use the High Fizz setting, because, of course.
Sprinkle cinnamon and stevia into a small plate and mix. Run an orange wedge along the rim of the glasses and dip in cinnamon/stevia mixture.
Add black currant lime sparkling water to the pitcher just before serving, we don’t want to lose that fab fizz!
Enjoy!
