Hey guys, happy Friday! I’m so excited to have Melissa from Made By Melissa Lee stopping by today to share an amazing fall recipe with you! It’s straight up magic, truly. Enjoy, and have a wonderful weekend!
Hi, I’m Melissa and I’m the food lover behind the blog Made by Melissa Lee. I’m so happy to be stopping by Lydi Out Loud today to share one of my favorite fall recipes, Apple Soda Dumplings!
What comes to mind when you hear the word “fall?” For me, my thoughts immediately go to red apples, plaid scarves and piles of colorful leaves. Just thinking about it makes me a little giddy.
You see, fall is my favorite season. Even though it means the warmth of summer is behind us and the chill of winter is coming, I can’t help but love everything about fall. Those days when you only need a light jacket and the sun is pouring through the color-changing leaves is absolute perfection. I soak up all this season has to offer any and every way I possibly can.
One such way is by baking these Apple Soda Dumplings. Even though pumpkin flavored treats seem to be taking over the world right now, I happen to really enjoy using apples in the fall. Plus, if you’re like me you need some recipes to use up the 10 lbs. I just picked at the orchard 🙂
Like most of the recipes I make these days, this one’s really easy. The dumplings are made with canned crescent rolls, which helps get this recipe into the oven so quickly. With so many fun fall activities to do, there’s no time to spend making the dough from scratch!
To make the dumplings, you just roll a crescent dough triangle around an apple slice. Easy- peasy, right? After rolling up all of the dumplings, you melt together some butter, sugar, cinnamon and vanilla and pour it over the dumplings. At this point, your whole house will start to smell heavenly because butter + sugar + cinnamon is just one of the best smells ever!
Next comes the fun and unexpected ingredient – lemon-lime soda! Would you have ever guessed that? I mean, if the name wasn’t in the title and all… Anyway, something about the bubbles in the soda gives the dumplings a crispy cinnamon coating on top, which I could eat all day long!
When it comes out of the oven, your home will officially smell like fall! You’re welcome! Top these dumplings with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and I am one happy lady.
If you want to jump on the apple bandwagon with me this fall, try making this dessert the next time you have guests over. They will all be saying “pumpkin what?” by time they finish. You can trust me on that one 🙂

Apple Soda Dumplings
Ingredients
- 2 large apples peeled, cored and each cut into 8 slices (Granny Smith preferred)
- 2 cans 8 oz crescent rolls
- 3/4 cup 1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon + extra for dusting on top
- 8 oz lemon-lime soda like Sprite
Instructions
- Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9x13 inch pan with cooking spray and set aside. Unroll the crescent rolls on your work surface and separate into single dough triangles.
- Take an apple slice, lay it on the long end of one triangle and roll it up.
- Place the finished dumpling in the prepared dish and continue this process until all apple slices and rolls are used up. The finished pan will have two rows of eight dumplings.
- On the stove, melt the butter in a medium pan over low heat. Quickly stir in the sugar, vanilla and cinnamon until combined, but not so long as to dissolve the sugar.
- Pour the butter mixture over the pan of dumplings. Then pour the soda on top and sprinkle on a little additional cinnamon.
- Bake for about 40 minutes. The dumplings will be brown and crispy on top.
- Cool for 10-15 minutes before serving and top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the ultimate fall treat!
About Melissa:
Melissa has loved to cook and bake since she was a little girl. She can remember staying up late with her mom waiting for their final loaf of yeast bread to come out of the oven. She inherited her love of baking from her mom and somewhere along the way she started to enjoy cooking “real food” too and not just baking cookies, brownies and other sweets. Today, as a wife and mother of a toddler, Melissa does a lot of quick and easy family friendly meals. Most of her recipes are on the healthier side, but with a cookie or two thrown in for good measure. If you’re in need of some go-to meals to please those gathering around your dinner table, stop by to see her on her blog, Made by Melissa Lee, Instagram, Facebook or Pinterest for some great ideas!
