The weekend before last was one of Ryan’s (hubby’s) favorite weekends… The Memorial Tournament that takes place here in Columbus. It’s a major golf tournament that happens every year at the same time and Ryan always looks forward to it. I decided since he would be at the golf course, it was the perfect opportunity to get some girlfriends together for a kick off to summer party.
As you may have guessed, I went with a Flamingo theme. I love the bright pink and I think Flamingos just scream summer, right? Ok the Flamingos themselves don’t scream summer, but I’m sure you know what I mean. 😉
I had a “Welcome! Let’s Flamingle” sign for when the girls came in. Many of my friends don’t know each other very well so I wanted to get them together to “flamingle” and get to know each other better.
As the sign states, everyone took a Flamingo card when they came in and we played “Guess That Flamingal’s Fib” (a.k.a. 2 Truths and a Lie). Have you ever played it? It’s so fun and made a great summer party icebreaker!
It’s easy to play; everyone writes down 3 statements about themselves, 2 of which are true and 1 of which is not. Then everyone goes around the table and reads her 3 statements and the rest of the group has to guess which 1 isn’t true. Some examples from our summer party:
- I’m 30 years old.
- I have 3 brothers.
- My family owned 4 elephants when I was young.
As you can imagine, everyone guessed #3 but the lie was actually #1! It was really fun and helped everyone get to know each other a bit better.
As most parties are, of course the food was the focal point! In keeping with a true summer party feel, I marinated chicken breast in Soy Vay Island Teriyaki Sauce and made Island Chicken Teriyaki kebabs with sweet onion, tomato and pineapple. They turned out amazing (I’m not getting my brag on, it’s all thanks to the sauce!)
Also on the menu we had Flamingo Juice (Cherry flavored water), plenty of snacks and flamingo cupcakes.
I made a bunch of fun flamingo decor with my Cricut machine that the girls loved! I cut the flamingo juice tag and the banner out of card stock and hung them from the pitcher and table with twine.
I cut small flamingos also from card stock and drew on beaks and an eye with a fine point black marker and attached the flamingos to the straws with a glue stick.
I cut round tags from flamingo scrapbook paper and attached them to toothpicks with a glue stick, they made perfect cupcake toppers.
It was a perfect afternoon; the weather was fantastic, the food delicious and the girl time a blast!
Do you have any gatherings coming up? What fun summer party ideas do you have in the works? I love to have a stash of ideas on hand and would love to hear your’s in the comments below!
