Create a beautiful DIY Birdhouse made out of paper using a Cricut machine. With 3 designs, you can customize this spring decor to your own personal style.
I don’t think I have ever been more ready for spring. With staying home 24/7 these days, I can’t wait until we get outside to at least enjoy some fresh air in our own backyard. In the meantime, as always, crafting is one of my favorite distractions/stress relievers. Color also brightens my mood and spring colors and decor always give me a lift toward the end of a long winter.
I wanted to make some spring paper bird houses for our spring decor this year and I could not be happier with how they turned out. They are amazingly easy to make, and with the Cricut Maker tools you can create some really cool details for your birdhouse roofs! Follow along this easy step by step tutorial to make your own DIY birdhouse made from paper. You can also find a printable instruction card at the bottom of this post.

Instructions for DIY Paper Birdhouse
Note: I used a Cricut Maker for this project but the steps are the same for a Cricut Explore Air with the exception that you won’t be able to deboss the roofs of the paper bird houses.
Open up the paper DIY birdhouse template in Cricut Design Space. Customize the quantity and sizes of the paper birdhouses if you’d like. Click on make it. Select your material. Since the patterned paper option doesn’t come down in the dropdown of compatible materials (due to use of the embossing tip), I used the setting for heavy cardstock. I used a plain pink cardstock for the roof of the floral house.
The Cricut Maker will direct you when to change out the blade for the debossing tip, scoring wheel and fine point blade for all of the cuts.
Cut the small wreaths out of green cardstock and select “cardstock (for intricate cuts)” from the Cricut Maker dropdown menu.
How to Assemble the Paper DIY Bird House
Once all of the cuts have been made, press the scored areas with a scraper to make sure the scores are crisp. Apply paper glue onto the flap on the front of the paper birdhouse and attach it to the back of the house. Add glue onto the flap on the front of the bird house and attach to the front of the house. Allow to dry.
Lace a thin “string” of paper glue along all of the top edges of the DIY birdhouses and attach the roofs. Allow to dry.
Lace a thin string of paper glue onto the bottoms of 2 paper wreaths and stack 3 of them together. Stagger the designs to create a more realistic and dimensional appearance. Allow to dry.
Apply a thin band of glue to the back of the paper wreaths and place onto the fronts of the paper bird houses.
Btw, I adore the deluxe patterned papers that Cricut makes! These beautiful designs from Natalie Malan are exactly what I envisioned for my paper birdhouses when I got the idea. They all coordinate together beautifully and are reversible so I was able to use even more patterns/designs. It makes the insides of the DIY bird houses beautiful and even the undersides of the DIY birdhouse roofs!
Now your sweet little paper DIY birdhouses are ready to bring some spring into your home!
Do you find creating/crafting/cooking calming during these stressful times? I hope this project can bring you some joy and peace. Be well and healthy, my friends.
