See how easy it is to create this beautiful boxwood monogram wreath by adding a luxurious faux suede initial and wood beads.
My Faux Suede Monogram Wreath tutorial is sponsored by DecoArt. As always, the ideas and opinions shared are my own.
I love the beginning of each year when I get to see all of the fun new DecoArt products that are coming out and when I finally get my hands on them. This one, DecoArt Suede gets a big whooooa from me! It’s amazing the instant luxury that it adds to a project by mimicking the luxurious, nubby texture of suede. This lightly textured formula has serious coverage, requires no prep (my kind of paint!) and can disguise small imperfections with it’s lightly textured finish.
You guys know I’m all about some monograms (and wreaths!) and I’ve been trying to come up with DIY monogram wreath ideas and this was the time! I played with the DecoArt Suede to upgrade a basic boxwood wreath to a monogram wreath that is now the focal point of my entry. Here’s how you can make your own:
How to Make a Faux Suede DIY Monogram Wreath
- DecoArt Suede Paint in Suede
- Paint brush
- Unfinished wood or chipboard initial
- Wood beads
- Floral wire
- Wire cutters
Using a firm paint brush, apply the Suede paint in a cross-hatch, x pattern to give the most dimensional and suede-like effect. It will cover most surfaces in just one coat, but adding additional coats will show off the texture even more so I added a second coat once the 1st coat dried thoroughly. The paint dries quickly and will be fully cured in 7 – 10 days.
Cut a piece of twine the length that you would like your beaded hanger to be and string the wood beads, tying off the twine in knots on the back of the monogram letter.
The suede-like initial would be beautiful to hang just as-is with the beaded hanger, too.
Cut a few pieces of green floral wire and twist it around the beaded hanger in 3 spots (spaced every 3 -4 wood beads) and twist around the branches of the boxwood wreath.
Hang on a mantle, mirror, window or interior door to add some luxury! This is an indoor monogram wreath decoration as the Suede paint isn’t an outdoor formula.
This stuff is pretty magical, right?! All 10 colors of DecoArt Suede paint are now officially available at Michael’s as of today! What will you give a suede-over?
