“It is unacceptable for any child in our community to be homeless. Not one child. Not one night.”
When I read this quote on the Homeless Families Foundation’s (HFF) website it gave me the chills and it has been echoing through my mind ever since. Yes, this is a blog post to tell you about an amazing event and give you an opportunity to win tickets but it’s about much more.
Every year, approximately 1,200 families and 3,000 children are homeless in Columbus. 3,000 children.
I feel sad. I feel guilt. I feel blessed that I haven’t suffered through what these 1,200 families are living through every day. But I feel empowered to help by working with such an amazing organization with a mission that empowers and supports these families in such an impactful way.
In case you haven’t heard of HFF, they are working to create a hopeful, nurturing environment for families and children where they are engaged in year-round education, housing assistance and supportive services. The great equalizer in society is a good education. The great resilience builder in life is hope.
Their mission is to educate and nurture children while empowering families to achieve stable housing and self-sufficiency. They secure housing and provide educational programming and support for kids and they have been able to positively impact over 800 children and over 275 families. While that number is amazing and they have already made such a huge impact in our community, we can all help HFF to help even more families and children.
How can you help? Join us at this amazing event!
Will I see you there? Let’s all work together to make this year’s Hope Takes Flight event a huge, record-setting success!
