FALL DECOR, DIY WREATH, DIY, FALL WREATH

Fall has always been one of my favorite seasons. The beautiful color pallet of the changing leaves, Buckeye football, chili, all of it makes me feel warm and cozy. The only thing that keeps Fall from being my SOLE favorite is the imminent threat of cold weather!

I LOVE decorating for Fall. Cozy throws, warm colors, and peculiar looking lumpy squash really bring the cozy factor that every home needs to get ready for Winter hibernation (at least here in Ohio!) I also love any excuse I can fathom to decorate with owls where they don’t seem awkwardly out of context!

This year I challenged myself to decorating scavenger hunt: to capture all that I love about Fall with some of my staple decorations that are already in the house. I was amazed at how many Fall decor ideas I came up with just by looking around the house with a different perspective.

The first is my “Wreath for all seasons”, pictured above. My cousin Brittany made it for me for my bridal shower, which is the Spring version, you can check it out on her blog here.   I was able to “Fall-ify” it with just a few simple steps:

  1. Removed previous aqua and white floral pieces and aqua “N” that had been on the wreath.
Painted the “N” with bronze craft paint (you can find the unfinished wood letters at Hobby Lobby or Joann.
  2. Added some floral pieces that I had from before our move.
  3. Glued pieces on with a glue gun; they will pop right off when it’s time to transform it for the next season.
  4. That’s it!

To hang the wreath, I used this large ribbon (from Hobby Lobby) and attached it from the inside of the door with a Command hook (I love those things! They have a lot of fun project ideas on their site). I cut a large piece of the ribbon so that I could adjust the wreath’s placement to where I wanted it for the front of the door, and hung the wreath from the middle point of the ribbon.  I cut a small slit in the ribbon (don’t worry, it isn’t visible from eye level), and mounted the Command hook upside down so that it would hold the ribbon in place.

I tied the overhanging ribbon into a bow to carry over the design to the inside. This was a happy accident, I won’t lie! 😉 I finished the door by hanging these adorable beaded ears of Indian corn from Joann from the door handle.

My next discovery for transformation were these crackled glass hurricanes.  They have so much empty space in them, I decided I would add some candy corns to them to use as a Halloween centerpiece.

How do you like to transform your home for Fall? Take a look around at what you have around the house that you can “Fall-ify”! I’d love for you to share!

Stay tuned, the Fall transformation has just begun, next week I will show you the next phase!

I love how you hung the wreath . . . so much nicer than hanging from a metal hanger as the door never closes right with those! Great fall inspiration!
