I love some good beauty hacks! As a self-confessed beauty junkie, I’m always on the lookout for the next best product and always keeping my eyes and ears open for the best beauty hacks. Just because I love makeup doesn’t mean I don’t like a good shortcut!
1. Makeup Brush Cleaning Hack
I became obsessed with getting my hands on a Sigma brush cleaning mat as soon as I saw it. Cleaning my makeup brushes is certainly not a task I enjoy, so any tool that can help me make easier work of it, well I’m all about it. At that time, finding one of these mats was as improbable as getting my hands on the coveted and elusive Target beauty box. Fast forward to one night that I stumbled upon a kitchen gadget (my Pyramid Pan) and realized it could pull double duty as a Simga mat dupe! Check out the full brush cleaning tutorial here.
2. Effortless Makeup Removal
You guys! This thing is a game changer! I’ve been a faithful makeup wipes girl for many years, until I tried the Makeup Eraser. I saw a lot of people talking about it on Instagram so of course I had to try it. This didn’t disappoint. I don’t know how it does it, but it does. All traces of makeup GONE. Its magical.
3. Perfect Eyeliner Every Time
This tutorial gives you step by step instruction on how to nail a perfect cat eye every time. Grab that tape out of your desk and bring it into the bathroom!
Even with the amazing tape trick, every once in awhile a mishap may occur. If so, don’t panic and go crazy on your eye with a q-tip and eye makeup remover, it will cause the rest of the makeup to run and ruin the rest of the look you just worked so hard to achieve. Simply swipe an angled eyeliner brush across a makeup remover wipe and clean up the little snafu with the brush. The brush won’t be too saturated, so it won’t disturb the rest of the makeup, and the sharp angle of the brush will maintain the crisp line.
4. Let Your Dry Shampoo Do It’s Thing
For days that you aren’t going to wash your hair, apply the dry shampoo the night before. This will allow it to absorb oil while you sleep, rather than waiting for it to do its job in the morning which holds up your hair styling. Wearing a terrycloth headband overnight right at the hair line will help further the oil absorption (for me the hair line is the only area that my hair has any oil).
5. Don’t Wipe Off Your Concealer!
We’ve all seen the scientific charts that list the prescribed order of application for each makeup product. Well today I encourage and empower you to question authority and challenge the system. If you follow a,b,c chart, you have been applying your concealer before your foundation or BB cream, so when you apply your foundation, you have likely wiped away the majority of your concealer’s coverage. If you think about, this hack makes perfect sense. Put the concealer on after the foundation. You will likely need less concealer since the foundation will do some pre-work and you also won’t be wiping away the concealer.
6. The Perfected Bold Lip… Nail It!
The bold, statement matte lip is still around and not going anywhere anytime soon. Its a beautiful look but comes with its drawbacks… the challenge of getting the perfect line, the color feathering, and it holds a big old magnifying mirror to your lips to show off any dry and flaky parts. A good lip scrub and a few simple tools will solve all of these quandaries. Get the details here.
7. Save the Towel for Your Body
I’ve always rocked the towel turban post-shower, you? I was blown away when reading that a simple t-shirt will absorb excess water better than our terrycloth bathroom staples.
8. No More Smeared Mascara!
Mascara confetti. We’ve all had it. The cluster of little dots that you stamp on your face when you get a little overzealous with your mascara application and the wand hits you in the eye. For me, this is an almost daily occurrence. I’ll again reference the advice from above and say don’t panic and don’t reach for the eye makeup remover. The rest of your makeup looks great so don’t take it all off with a remover-soaked q-tip. Instead, wait a couple of minutes for the mascara confetti to completely dry, then gently swipe a dry q-tip over it and it will grab the confetti like a magnet, keeping the rest of your makeup intact. Side note: if you’re in the market for a new mascara, I HIGHLY recommend Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir. EPIC lashes with this stuff. EPIC.
9. Fix a Broken Compact
Remember how I’m clumsy? This amazing beauty hack has come in handy for me more than twice. See the tutorial here.
10. Ditch the Grays Between Salon Visits
I regret to say that I needed to find this hack for personal use. My mom didn’t get grays until her late 40s so I didn’t think I was anywhere close to finding grays on my head. Wrong. Using a waterproof brow gel, apply to gray hairs waiting for a color touch-up. Allow to dry and it will last until your next wash! Are any of these beauty hacks new to you? I always fail miserably at cat eyes. Excited to try your trick. All of them sound good. I’ve done the t-shirt before and it does work great.

Great tips Lydia. I never heard of the tape trick! That’s a new one! I have to try the tee shirt tip instead of the terry towel! Thanks!
