I cannot believe that we’re just 1 week away from Christmas! Where did this month go?! I’m not mad about it though… I love Christmas! This is the time of the year that we may have more house guests than we have the whole rest of the year combined. I love to entertain guests and it’s very important to me that they feel at home. Not just comfortable, but at home. Like as if they were in their own home.
For me that starts with getting the guest room prepared. Here are 3 easy tips to make your guest room so comfy that your guests won’t want to leave!
1. Declutter the Guest Room
It may seem like captain obvious, but make room for them. I won’t lie, I had to pause and gear up for this one a bit. Ok, actually a lot a bit. Our guest room closet is like a much larger version of a junk drawer. It’s the catch all for anything that doesn’t have a place that we don’t use every day or that is out of season. Yikes. This was going to be a project. My attempts thus far have basically been getting rid of a couple of items and then shuffling stuff from one side of the closet to the other or stuffing things in bags to create a semblance of organization (lies!).
Getting the closet ready for our holiday guests was a blessing in disguise. If you’ve hung out with me on the blog before, you may have seen my projects to strive toward organization. Checking the guest room closet off of the organization check list is a huge relief! And believe it or not, using these Ziploc® Space Bags® that I got at Lowe’s made this project a breeze. If I had known how easy this was going to be, I wouldn’t have procrastinated for so long! The space I saved with these compared to uncompressed storage volume is ridiculous. Sure beats the big bulky duffel bags where things were housed before! In fact, I even used a large Ziploc® Space Bag® to store all of the backpacks and duffel bags that were in the closet!
This project enabled me to clear out more than HALF of the space in the closet… it’s like these 2 boxes magically became a storage unit! 😉 I used the Ziploc® Space Bag® Large Flat and the Ziploc® Space Bag® 3 Flat Combo Pack.
I simply filled the bags, zipped them closed and used my vacuum nozzle over the opened cap on the bag and sucked the air out. Done!
Yes, this is the same closet! P.S. Please don’t judge me for the before’s. 😉
I filled the bags with clothes, pillows, blankets, towels, duffel bags, backpacks and bath mats. All of that stuff is stacked neatly in six Ziploc® Space Bags® in that one corner of the closet. Now we actually have room for the guests to hang their clothes and settle in!
2. Display your Wi-Fi password
That way they can play on their phones/tablets, etc. if they want to.
3. Stock the Nightstand
Have an alarm clock, tissues, reading material and water on the guest room nightstand. For extra credit, flowers, linen spray and a jewelry dish are a nice touch!
Will you be welcoming guests for the holidays?

Love the wi-fi sign idea. I’ve never used the vacuum bags for storage, I have for food and love them. I have a whole closet full of blankets so I’m perfect for the challenge.
