It’s getting chilly folks. I know not just because my weather app tells me, but also because of how my lips feel… as crunchy as the changing leaves. Nothing ruins this season’s bold matte lip color like peeling, crusty lips. Gross, I know, but am I wrong? I love a good sugar scrub for my skin, so I got inspired to try making one for my lips.
As I tend to do, I got a wee bit carried away once I started making these babies. Or a lotta bit carried away. Keeping it real. #ocdmuch
I’m happy to report that my DIY lip scrub is doing a bang up job at keeping my lips soft and supple. And bonus; I have a whole virtual candy store of flavors to choose from! Some of these combos you may remember from my DIY sugar body scrubs. I figure if you find a good thing, wear the heck out of it, right?!
DIY Lip Scrub
The ingredient quantities below make 1 lip scrub. If you want to make more, simply multiply the quantities by however many you want to make.
1 teaspoon white refined sugar
1 teaspoon Coconut Oil
Mix the coconut oil and sugar together until it’s a creamy consistency.
That will be your base for any of the below recipes. If you’re not such a flavor person, use it as is.
Now for the fun part! Adding in the fixings that make them taste ahhhhmazing!!!
Coconut Lime Lip Scrub
Additional Ingredients to Add to Your Base:
2 drops Lime Essential Oil
1/8 teaspoon Coconut Extract
Add lime oil and coconut extract to the scrub base and stir together. If you want, you can even grate a little lime zest into the mix for some fun color. I kept it easy with the oil.
I found these small screw top containers on eBay that are perfect to house the lip scrubs!
Orange Creamcicle Lip Scrub
2 drops Orange Essential Oil
2 whole Vanilla beans
Add in orange oil to the scrub base. You can zest if you want to. 😉
Cut a vertical slit down the entire length of the vanilla beans.
Peel the bean open and using the corner of your knife, scrape out all of the vanilla goodness inside.
Add said vanilla goodness to the scrub and mix together. Done!
Lemon Ginger Lip Scrub
2 drops Lemon Essential Oil
1/2 teaspoon grated fresh Ginger
Add lemon oil to the base.
Peel the bark-like skin from a small section of the ginger.
Add grated ginger to the base and mix well.
Almond Joy Lip Scrub
1/8 teaspoon Almond extract
1/8 teaspoon Coconut extract
Add in both extracts and mix. You’ve got the hang of this part by now.
Coffee Bean Lip Scrub
1/2 packet Folgers Instant Coffee
Add the coffee crystals to the base and stir together. Prefer a vanilla latté? Add a couple of vanilla beans or vanilla extract to the mix!
If you want to keep it reeeeally simple, use a water flavoring mix to add into the scrub. Tropical Coconut by Crystal Light and Fruit Punch flavors are my faves.
Directions for Use:
Lightly massage a small amount of lip scrub all over your lips for about 15 seconds. Remove with a wet cloth. Or lick it off. No judgment here! Natural = EDIBLE!
Which of these flavors would you want to try? Here’s to the end of the season a.k.a. Chapped Lips!
