Dress up the standard wine gift with these fun and easy DIY Burlap Wine Gift Bags and DIY Wine Tags. These make perfect holiday and hostess gifts!
Good morning friends! I’m so excited to be participating in the Handmade Holidays along with many talented bloggers to bring you handmade holiday gift ideas. Below you will see a list of other bloggers and projects that are “blog hopping” along with me today! 🙂 There is also an amazing giveaway full of fun goodies you will definitely want to check out!
For today’s gift idea I wanted to find a fun way to dress up one of the most common gifts of the holiday season… WINE! Whether it’s for a hostess gift or birthday or holiday gift, I have admittedly grabbed a wine bag from the dollar store to throw my wine gift in. There’s nothing wrong with that, of course, but I wanted to make some wine gift bags and wine charms that will really make the wine a complete gift “set” and I’m sharing the tutorials for both today. And y’all know I love me some puns!
Burlap DIY Wine Gift Bags
Supplies:
- Burlap wine bags
- Cricut or other cutting machine and iron-on material in colors of choice (if you don’t have a cutting machine you can also use stencils and paint or pre-designed iron-on designs)
- Wine bag designs in Design Space
- Iron and press cloth
Directions:
Create your phrases and/or designs and using cutting machine, cut them out in the iron-on colors of your choice. You’re welcome to use my cut file (here) if you’d like! Remember to mirror your designs/phrases before cutting if you’re using iron-on material.
Turn the iron on to the hottest setting. Place a heavy piece of cardboard inside the bag so that when you iron there a firm backing (the iron-on will adhere better this way).
Pre-warm the area where the iron-on will be placed by pressing the burlap with the iron for about 20 seconds. Position the iron-on design and cover the design with a press cloth (I use a thin cotton napkin) and press down very firmly for 30 – 45 seconds. You don’t want to iron in a back and forth motion but a press and lift motion so that the iron-on design isn’t disturbed.
Slowly begin to peel off the iron-on liner. If it has not adhered re-cover with the press cloth and press again for 10 – 15 seconds until you’re able to pull away the lining and the design has adhered to the burlap bag.
And that’s all there is to it!
DIY Wine Charms/Tags
Is it a charm or is it a tag? We’ll call it a hybrid.
Supplies:
- Heavy cardstock (I used embossed cardstock but you can use whatever kind you’d like)
- Cricut or other cutting machine or ornament stencil
- Metallic silver marker
Directions
Cut out bulb ornaments with a cutting machine (you can use my Cricut cut file or download my image here to upload into your cutting machine software or use as a cutting pattern with scissors).
Color in the top of the bulb with a metallic silver marker (where the metal would be on actual bulb ornaments).
People can use the marker to write their names on their wine glass charms/tags.
The DIY wine gift bags and tags make a wine gift a lot more fun, don’t you think?

Also, any chance you have the charm file in an SVG format? I have a Cameo not a Cricut. If not…I totally get it and again, thanks for a great idea!

I don’t but I can send it to you as a photo to convert to SVG in the Silhouette Studio! I’ll email it to you! 🙂
