How to Make Polymer Clay Jewelry for Beginners
Learn how to make beautiful Polymer Clay Jewelry even if you've never tried it before! This starter set and instructions will turn you into a pro (and you'll be hooked!)
Ingredients
- 1 pkg Sculpey Premo DIY Starter Kit - Fashion Icon
- Clay Roller
- Polymer Clay Knife Tool
- Wood Modeling Tool
- Sculpey Oven-Safe Work Mat
- Clasps, jump rings, chains, etc. (depending on what type of jewelry you will be making)
Instructions
- Condition Sculpey Premo and place on an oven-safe work mat. Roll flat until about ¼" thick.
- Place the jewelry template over the rolled clay and cut out the desired shape with the needle tool.
- Use the wood modeling tool to create indentations on the clay pieces for added dimension.
- Use the needle tool to create holes to string your charms (or holes for jump rings for earrings).
- Place the mat onto a baking sheet and bake at 275° F for 30 minutes per 1/4" of clay thickness. Remove from the oven and allow to cool fully.
- If desired, apply paint or glaze to finished pieces to create a different finish or texture.
- Using needle nose or jewelry pliers, loop a clasp or jump ring through the clay pieces, attach to other pieces as necessary.
Notes
When baking Sculpey Premo, use an oven thermometer to ensure that your oven temperature is indeed 275°. Oven temperatures can widely vary.
