How to Make a DIY Shiplap Sign with a Cricut Maker

Equipment

  • Shiplap Sign cut file
  • Knife blade
  • Strong Grip Mat
  • 12” x 6” Basswood
  • White Craft Paint
  • Paint brush
  • Picture frame (optional)
  • Adhesive

Instructions

  • Open the Shiplap Sign cut file in Design Space. Customize as necessary to fit the size of your frame (if you're using a frame).
  • Secure basswood to a strong grip with masking tape and move all star wheels all the way to the right.

  • Insert knife blade into the Maker. Cut.

  • Apply a light wash of white paint so that some of the wood can still peek through.

  • Once the paint has dried, add a thin strand of adhesive on the front outer edges of the shiplap panels and place into the frame. Allow adhesive to dry thoroughly.
  • If you plan to use your shiplap sign without a frame, you can glue a smaller piece of basswood horizontally across the back of the shiplap sign to make sure the panels stay in place.
