Ingredients

  • 2 large apples peeled, cored and each cut into 8 slices (Granny Smith preferred)
  • 2 cans 8 oz crescent rolls
  • 3/4 cup 1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon + extra for dusting on top
  • 8 oz lemon-lime soda like Sprite

Instructions

  • Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9x13 inch pan with cooking spray and set aside. Unroll the crescent rolls on your work surface and separate into single dough triangles.
  • Take an apple slice, lay it on the long end of one triangle and roll it up.
  • Place the finished dumpling in the prepared dish and continue this process until all apple slices and rolls are used up. The finished pan will have two rows of eight dumplings.
  • On the stove, melt the butter in a medium pan over low heat. Quickly stir in the sugar, vanilla and cinnamon until combined, but not so long as to dissolve the sugar.
  • Pour the butter mixture over the pan of dumplings. Then pour the soda on top and sprinkle on a little additional cinnamon.
  • Bake for about 40 minutes. The dumplings will be brown and crispy on top.
  • Cool for 10-15 minutes before serving and top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the ultimate fall treat!
