Let your visitors know which team you’re rooting for with this fun DIY Team Colors Wreath! Customize it for any team and any sport with pom poms and wood cut outs.
You guys probably know by now that I’m a big Ohio State Buckeyes fan. I graduated from there and my husband and I even got engaged on the 50 yard line of the Ohio Stadium. Since I’m such a Buckeye fan, I’m counting the days (15, to be exact) until the start of Buckeye football season!
Since football is a season in itself (along with other sports), it only seems fitting that the seasonal door wreath be updated for the occasion, right? I can’t wait to pull out my DIY team colors pom pom wreath to show my Buckeye pride!
Whether you’re like us and love your sports team, or if you just love fluffy pom poms, a DIY pom pom wreath is a great decoration for your porch in any color combo (not just scarlet and grey, of course). Have you ever wondered how to make a pom pom wreath? Here’s how!

DIRECTIONS
How to Make Pom Poms
They’re super easy with a pom pom maker. In the colors of your choice, create pom poms in 3 sizes by wrapping the yarn around the pom pom makers as shown on the instructions that come with the maker. Leave out a couple inches of extra yarn before wrapping so you have enough yarn to tie the pom poms around the wreath. My pom pom wreath used 32 pom poms but every size wreath will be different and you can personalize the density to your liking. Trim off any longer strands to make your pom poms perfectly round.
How to Make a Yarn Wreath
Simply wrap yarn around a wreath form so that the styrofoam isn’t visible.
Tie pom poms to the covered wreath form. If the yarn you’re using is super soft, the knots may want to slide down the wreath if the yarn doesn’t have enough tooth to keep them in place. If that’s the case, you can stick a flat thumbtack into the knots on the back of the wreath.
Since my team colors wreath was initially for football, I painted a small unfinished wood football with brown paint for the ball and white for the football laces.
I hung my pom pom wreath DIY decoration on the front door with a coordinating color ribbon.
If you want to make your pom pom wreath for a different sport, you can also use an unfinished wood circle cut out and paint it to look like a basketball, soccer ball, baseball, etc. Or if you don’t want it to be sport specific, you can personalize it with a wood cut out letter for a monogram. Or just leave it plain!
What colors would you want in your pom pom wreath?
