Make these easy DIY Christmas Tea Towels to add some Christmas cheer and whimsy to your holiday kitchen.

DIY Christmas Tea Towels #Christmasteatowels #ironon #Christmasdecor #christmasgiftideas

Hey guys, happy Thursday! I’m so excited to be participating in my first ever Craft Lightning… a fun challenge where a bunch of awesome bloggers are sharing lightning fast holiday craft ideas… 15 minutes or less fast! Make sure to swing by The Country Chic Cottage, Mad in Crafts and 30 Minute Crafts to see all of the lightning crafts for the whole week. I don’t know about you, but I’m in full on Christmas crafting mode over here so I’m all about some crafts that I can whip out fast.

My first holiday craft project (this one) happened because I realized that out of all of the tea towels that I’ve made (and there have been a lot), I’ve never made Christmas tea towels. We’ve had pun towels, Easter and summer towels, but no Christmas tea towels. Say whaaa?! Well no fear, we got em now!  There are so many fun Christmas images and projects in Cricut Design Space that the only challenge was narrowing down which ones to make. Clearly I wasn’t able to narrow it down too much so I settled on 3 designs for 3 Christmas Tea Towels. Want to make some with me? They would make great hostess gifts too!

DIY Iron-on Christmas Tea Towels

Christmas Tea Towels with Cricut Iron-on

Supplies

  • White flour sack towels
  • Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore Air 2
  • Christmas tea towel cut files and iron-on:
    • Merry and Bright tea towel (I used Black Everyday Iron-on and Emerald Green Foil Iron-on)
    • Deer silhouette tea towel (I used Black Everyday Iron-on and Gold Glitter Iron-on)
    • What Fun It Is tea towel (I used Black Everyday Iron-on and Red Foil Iron-on)
  • EasyPress or iron
  • Weeder tool
  • Press cloth or parchment paper

Directions

Open up the Christmas tea towels cut file(s) in Design Space (links are in the supply list). Change the sizes and colors to your preference.  When you’re ready to cut the iron-on vinyl for your Christmas tea towels, don’t forget to mirror your text.

Reverse text for iron-on

Select your material. On the Cricut Maker you select the cutting material right in Design Space; all of the most common cutting material options will pop right up.

Material selection for Christmas Tea Towels

When you’re cutting any material that isn’t shown in the main menu, you can view all and select your specialty material (i.e. foil iron-on).

Cricut Maker material settings

Remember with iron-on to always face the pretty side down on the mat (the Maker will remind you of that!)

Weed away negative space from the designs with the weeder tool (I loooove my BrightPad for wedding, especially glitter iron-on since I can never see the cuts!)

Position the designs with the liners on the towel to decide where you’d like them. For the silhouette deer tea towels I just eye-balled the spacing and tossed a few glitter deer in because all Christmas crafts must have a little glitter somewhere, right? 😉

Set the temperature and timer for the EasyPress according to the guide for whichever material you are ironing on and what material you’re ironing on to. If you’re using an iron start at medium high. Iron the tea towel to remove any wrinkles and preheat the towel. Place the press cloth or parchment paper over the design and press down firmly for the time indicated on the chart. Press the Cricut button on the right to start there timer. Once the timer goes off, allow the liners to cool for a minute before attempting to peel them off. If any part of the design begins to pull up, replace the liner and press again for 5 – 10 seconds.

I love how my Christmas Tea Towels turned out!
