Make these darling No-Sew Pineapple & Cactus Summer Kitchen Towels to add a splash of summer and whimsy to your kitchen. They would make a great gift as well!
It’s safe to say at this point that I’m obsessed with making kitchen towels. There were the fun with puns towels, Christmas towels and now I’m at it again with pineapple and cactus summer kitchen towels. All no-sew involved cuz remember I can’t sew. 😉 I loved the idea of mixing textures for my pineapple and cactus kitchen towels so I used a combination of fabric and iron-on foil. Want to make some too? Come on with me and let’s do it!
DIY No-Sew Pineapple & Cactus Summer Kitchen Towels
Supplies (contains affiliate links):
- White kitchen towels
- Summer kitchen towels cut file
- Cricut Explore Air
- Deep Point Blade
- Strong Grip Mat
- Foil Iron-on in Light Gold and Emerald Green
- Weeder tool
- Heat n Bond
- Green and yellow fabrics
- Pom-poms and/or fringe (optional)
Directions
- Open the summer kitchen towels cut file in Cricut Design Space and adjust the shapes to desired size. I usually print out the images to get an idea of the size I need before I make any cuts.
- I cut the pineapple head and the cactus pot out of iron-on foil. Place the foil liner side (pretty side) down onto a standard grip mat and adjust your Cricut to custom setting and select foil iron-on. Don’t forget to reverse your image for iron-on. The printed images make a great place holder too when you’re adding multiple pieces.
- To cut the fabric for the pineapple and cactus, first apply Heat n Bond to the back of the fabric according to product directions (the paper liner facing up). Once cooled, firmly press the fabric (with the heat n bond liner side down) onto a strong grip cutting mat. Cut with a deep cut blade on the custom material bonded fabric setting. It’s crucial that the blade is very sharp to get a clean cut on the fabric so that it doesn’t fray.
- Remove fabric from the mat (the liner will stick to the mat). Position the fabric piece on the towel.
- Once fabric pieces are positioned, press with with iron set to medium heat to secure to the towel (use a lift and press motion with the iron to avoid fabric from shifting). The cactus pieces are rounded on the bottoms so that they don’t need to overlap on the towel.
- I decided to use a ribbon to make the band around the top of the cactus pot for yet another texture variance. I attached a ribbon of Heat n Bond Soft Stretch on the back of the ribbon and attached the ribbon the same way I did the fabric.
- And of course my cactus needed a little flower on top in the form of a little pink pom-pom!
- I wanted to add some “party at the bottom” to my summer kitchen towels so I fused pom-poms and fringe to the bottom of each towel. To attach either the pom-poms or fringe, cut thin strips of the heat n bond soft stretch and iron on to the band and then iron-on to the bottom of the towels.
I think these summer kitchen towels are my favorite decoration this summer, they really cheer up the kitchen (or at least cheer me up when I’m stuck in the kitchen 😉 ). What kind of designs would you like to have on your summer kitchen towels?
Pin it for later!

Patsy says
These towels are really cute but I was wondering how do you wash them and if you do you hang them to dry but he put them in the dryer?
Lydia says
Hi Patsy! Thank you so much! They are machine washable… I put them in a delicates bag so that the fringe and pom poms didn’t get tangled with my other laundry. I suggest air-drying them; I had another set that I machine dried and the fringe didn’t hold up very well.

I’ve yet to try using my Silhouette to cut fabric, so this looks like a fun project to try. I love the cactus one 🙂
