As a woman, I’ve heard (and participated in) much conversation about how men are blessed to age with distinction and have better (fill in the blank) than women… skin, lashes, etc. Well, I will wager to say there’s more to it than just genes, don’t you think? I think we can borrow these beauty hacks from the men in our lives and incorporate them into our routines!
Exfoliate
Men seem to age so gracefully. Think about how often they’re exfoliating their skin! If they’re shaving daily, that’s a good exfoliation every day, whereas women don’t tend to exfoliate as often. I love Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant; it’s a fine powder that mixes with water and is gentle enough to use everyday.
Don’t Cut Your Cuticles
I’ve always been so puzzled how I spend time on manicures and yet my dad and hubby have better groomed cuticles than I do! What the?! Not fair! I decided to try an experiment and lay off the cuticle trimming on my right hand and just gently push them back after the shower. This is what I’ve always read to do in beauty mags but if the manicurists trim them I always assumed that must be the real right way. I continued to trim my cuticles as usual on the left hand when a pesky hangnail would surface, etc. At the end of the experiment, I had no hangnails on my right hand and the cuticles looked much more groomed and clean. Cuticle scissors, be gone!
Use a Wash Cloth
I love my shower poufs as much as the next girl, but while observing my husband’s routines and what I could adopt, I tried to give the washcloth a try again (circa 1990!). Amazingly, my skin felt much less dry than it did with the pouf. I assumed my skin was getting dry from the shower gel, but nope! It was the pouf likely over exfoliating my skin and stripping too much oil. Now I’m still good with my fave shower gels but enjoying much more hydrated skin since switching back to my old school wash cloth.
Borrow His Razor
I’ve spent years using razors made for women, and while there is nothing wrong with that, I recently tried Ryan’s Schick Hydroedge 5 for the first time and, well, consider me a razor convert. I got a much closer shave and NO razor burn!
Step Away From the Pumice (at least cut back)
Again, why do guys have such smooth feet and most of them don’t even get pedicures?! Say it with me now… “not fair!” Well, all of the filing and scraping we do with our home pedicure scrubbers or the various foot implements they employ at the nail salons are removing so much skin that the skin is going into defense mode and growing back thicker and rougher to try to protect itself. I had no idea!
Are there any favorite beauty hacks you have borrowed from the men in your lives?

These are great! I would have never thought about the washcloth trick but it makes so much sense! The other one I do use is the sun block everyday. I have a moistuizing one so instead of a daily lotion I use that and protect my skin. I don’t get “tan” but I’ll look 50 when I’m 80 so I don’t mind 😉 LOL Thanks for sharing!

I agree with you Suzanne, I’ll forego the tan (and the heavy wrinkles)! 😉 Thanks for stopping by!

Also try using spf every single day to prevent premature aging. And I mean EVERY SINGLE DAY rain or shine it doesn’t matter..use it! I’m 42 but I look 28 in large part to spf (and great genes, thanks Mom!)
Lydia says
I COMPLETELY agree Preeti, SPF is a must!
